Mission & History

The foundation advances exceptional healthcare close to home, funding care and innovation through philanthropy that meets Boca Raton’s needs.

Our Mission

Philanthropy helps translate vision into care by funding programs, technology, research and equipment that advance the hospital’s ability to serve our community. Each gift supports the work of teams who deliver excellence every day for the people who call Boca Raton home.

Our purpose is to strengthen healthcare for our community by advancing patient care and expanding access through philanthropic partnerships.

Our Mission

Our Story Starts With a Promise

In 1962, a heartbreaking loss revealed how urgently Boca Raton needed a hospital of its own, and a determined community answered the call. What followed was decades of growth, new centers of excellence and major campus transformations, all shaped by generations of people who believed exceptional healthcare should be available close to home.

1962

When Debra Ann and James Randall Drummond passed away, the nearest hospital was about 30 minutes from their home, sparking community efforts to build a local hospital. In the months that followed, the Debbie-Rand Memorial Service League and the Debbie-Rand Foundation were incorporated to raise funds.

1967

Boca Raton Community Hospital, nicknamed the “Miracle on Meadows Road,” opened on July 17, 1967, with 104 beds and admitted its first patients. The opening was the beginning of an effort to bring healthcare closer to Boca Raton families.

2010

On August 20, 2010, the hospital changed its name to Boca Raton Regional Hospital, reflecting an expanded role in regional care and services. The years that followed brought major additions, including the Wold Family Center for Emergency Medicine and the Marcus Neuroscience Institute.

2019

A strategic partnership was formed with Baptist Health, South Florida's largest health organization, in May of 2019. This definitive affiliation agreement positioned the hospital for continued growth amid rising healthcare complexity.

2023-2026

The Keeping the Promise campaign launched as the largest in hospital history to fund new facilities, surgical suites, neuroscience expansion and campus upgrades. In November 2023, the Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion opened. The Gloria Drummond Patient Tower is expected to open around mid-2026.
